R4A Knife is exactly as described, out of the bag ready to use. I have used it almost everyday since receiving it.
Just received this R4A in the mail and I’m very impressed, especially for the intro price. It’s a very simplistic design which I think is what drew me to it. It arrived in a vacuum sealed bag with a cool beaded lanyard attached. The blade shape is very utilitarian and not overly tactical or aggressive (even in the blackout finish) which is a good thing. The blackwashed D2 blade came razor sharp with aggressive jimping on the spine and lower finger cutout. There’s a slight swedge in front of the spine jimping leading up to the drop point. I haven’t tested it yet on a fire steel, but I think it may still work. The 1.3” (33mm) tall flat ground blade tapers to 20/1000 behind the edge which will be stout enough for some tough work. The G10 scales are lightly milled and provide a nice tactile feel. Based on the listed dimensions I honestly wasn’t sure how it would feel in hand, but removing it from the nice Kydex sheath I’m happy to say it’s very comfortable. I measured the blade thickness at 0.19” (5mm) and the overall handle thickness at 0.43” (11mm) with a palm swell height of 1.25” (32mm). The palm swell perfectly fits my med/lrg hands will no real hotspots. The balance point is at the back of the jimping of the finger cutout making it slightly handle heavy, perfect for using the pommel as a strike point. My example weighs in at little over 8oz with a lanyard and it just feels great. This will be a great addition to anyone’s regular EDC, backpacking gear or bailout bag.
